AMHERST, NY – Brandon Mueller made the most of his third start of the season, stopping 25 shots and earning the team’s first shutout of the season as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeated the Burlington Cougars, 4-0, at the Northtown Center at Amherst on Tuesday evening.
Nolan Sheeran scored the game’s opening goal at the 4:58 mark of the first period with a power play goal, assisted by Pat Egan and Nick DeSimone.
Egan, along with Ben Casale, then assisted Ryan Schmelzer on the team captain’s goal at the 16:33 mark of the second period. Buffalo would not score again until the 15:54 mark of the third period, when Nick Smith got his fourth goal of the season, assisted by David Hopfer.
Sheeran, in a 4-on-4 situation, netted his second goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining.
The Jr. Sabres put 41 shots on Cougars netminder David Tappendan, with the goalie stopping 37 of them.
Buffalo will not return to game action until Wednesday, October 16, when they host the Milton Icehawks at the Northtown Center at Amherst beginning at 7:30 p.m.
