AMHERST – The Buffalo Jr. Sabres improved their record to 4-1 in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with a 4-2 win Wednesday night against the Trenton Golden Hawks at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Once again, the goal scoring was distributed up and down the roster, with four different players accounting for the goals. Two of the scorers, Ben Casale and Ryan Kuhn, netted their first goals of the season. Pat Egan opened the scoring for Buffalo with his third goal of the season, on the power play, assisted by Darren McCormick and Nick DeSimone. Max Mikowski had Buffalo’s other goal in the second period, his third of the season as well.
McCormick finished the game with two assists.
Goaltender Joseph Pianta turned aside 23 shots to earn his fourth victory of the season. After making eight saves in the first period, Pianta was kept busy in the second period facing 14 shots. He saved 12 of them, then was treated to a quieter third period as Buffalo held Trenton to just three shots on goal. The Jr. Sabres, meanwhile, put 28 shots on Trenton’s Emerson Verrier.
The Jr. Sabres will travel Saturday for only their second time this month, facing the Mississauga Chargers that afternoon in Oakville, Ontario as part of the OJHL Governor’s Showcase.
