Buffalo falls hard at home, 8-3

(Amherst, NY) – Buffalo took an early 1-0 lead but otherwise fell flat as the Hamilton Red Wings stunned their hosts 8-3 at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Sean Federow (in photo)¬†scored all three of Buffalo’s goals. For Hamilton, Luke Laidlaw also had a hat trick while Nick Scamurra scored twice. Jordan Merante, Chris Micallef and Spencer MacCormack added single tallies.
Goaltender Bobby Bloomfield took the loss for Buffalo, who fell to eight wins, four regulation losses and one overtime loss. The team travels to Cobourg, Ontario on Saturday, October 13 to face the Orangeville Flyers in the OJHL Governor’s Showcase.

Among those in attendance at Friday’s game were former Buffalo Jr. Sabre Rocy Gruttadauria.

The forward, who just days ago was honored by his college team’s conference as its Rookie of the Week, has frequented Jr. Sabres games as well.¬† Gruttadauria, who was lined up to play for Buffalo for a third season, instead left the team in August when Niagara University offered him an immediate opening with their NCAA Division I team.

That team, which competes in the Atlantic Hockey conference, announced earlier this week that Gruttadauria was honored by the AHA as its Rookie of the Week.
