AMHERST – The Buffalo Jr. Sabres recorded another win at home, this time a 5-1 decision over the Orangeville Flyers at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Nolan Sheeran’s unassisted goal at the midway point of the first period put the hosts ahead in what was otherwise a slow start for Buffalo. Orangeville outshot the Jr. Sabres in the first by 11-9.
The Jr. Sabres pulled away in the second period, scoring what included the game-winner. That goal came from Tim Kielich, whose power play tally at the 4:43 mark of the second was his third goal in two games.
Nick DeSimone and Darren McCormick added goals to send Buffalo into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead.
Keegan Ackerland got the Flyers on the scoreboard with his shorthanded goal at the 10:53 mark of the third period. On the same power play, a five-minute major to Orangeville’s Emmerson Small for butt-ending an opponent, Nathan Black netted his third goal of the year at the 12:08 mark.
Buffalo goalie Joseph Pianta had another stellar performance in net, only allowing one goal in the 29 shots he faced.
The Jr. Sabres travel to Oakville Friday to face the Blades and then travel to Georgetown to battle the Raiders on Saturday night. The team’s home game is Monday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. against the Lindsay Muskies.
