MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Buffalo Jr. Sabres jumped out to a two-goal lead but the Missisauga Chargers responded with four unanswered goals to win Game Five of their Ontario Junior Hockey League first-round playoff series, 4-2, at Port Credit Arena on Saturday night.
Trevor Waarnar scored two power play goals, including the game winner.
Buffalo, which leads the series 3-2, took the lead with first period goals by Michael Ederer and Tim Kielich, with Ederer’s coming on the power play.
Mississauga’s comeback began at the 2:47 mark of the second period when Mitch Mehling scored to put the hosts on the scoreboard. Matt Hore then tied the game with his power play tally at the 5:37 mark.
Waarner’s first goal put the hosts ahead at the 14:57 mark. He then scored his second goal in the third period at the 15:08 mark.
Both goalies were kept busy, with winning netminder Austin Washkurak stopping 45 Buffalo shots. Jr. Sabres goalie Joe Pianta turned aside 41 Charger shots.
The series resumes with Game Six at Port Credit Arena on Monday evening at 7:15 p.m.
