(Niagara University, NY) – Former Buffalo Junior Sabres forward Rocky Gruttadauria (featured in file photo) was named Atlantic Hockey’s Rookie of the Week, Niagara University announced.
Gruttadauria, who left the Jr. Sabres during 2012 training camp to accept a faster-than-anticipated opportunity to join Niagara’s NCAA Division I squad, scored a goal in his first game, Niagara’s first of the game on its way to a 2-2 tie with Bowling Green on October 6.
The Rochester, NY area native has also recorded an assist for a total of two points in the Purple Eagles’ first two games of the season.
Niagara’s next game is Saturday, October 13 at home vs. Mercyhurst.
In two seasons with the Jr. Sabres, Gruttadauria appeared in 91 regular season games, scoring 19 goals and 19 assists. He also recorded one goal and four assists in eight games during the 2012-13 Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs. He is best remembered for his leadership and strong work ethic during his two seasons wearing the blue and gold.
