Jr. Sabres clip the Flyers, 7-3

AMHERST – Seven different players scored goals while some had multiple assists, as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeated the Orangeville Flyers, 7-3, Tuesday night at the Northtown Center at Amherst.

After Orangeville took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Mathew Thompson’s goal, Nico Gonzalez responded with a shorthanded tally at the 8:28 mark.

Buffalo then went on an offensive explosion in the second period with goals by Michael Ederer, Darren McCormick, Pat Egan (in photo) on the power play, Max Mikowski and Josh Gabriel.

The Flyers rallied for two more goals within the first four minutes of the third period but then Buffalo captain Ryan Schmelzer scored at the 13:06 mark to help preserve the hosts’ lead.

Dennis Gilbert and Daniel LaFontaine both had two assists while goaltender Joseph Pianta turned aside 15 of 18 Flyer shots for his third win of the season. Buffalo, meanwhile, put a total 41 shots on teh Orangeville net.

The Jr. Sabres will not return to game action until Wednesday, September 25, when they host the Trenton Golden Hawks at the Northtown Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
