Josh Kielich scored twice for the Jr. Sabres and added two assists, while David Seward recorded four assists, as the Buffalo Junior Sabres rebounded from Saturday night’s overtime loss in Oakville to defeat the Aurora Tigers 8-4 at the Northtown Center in Amherst.
Andrew Poturalski, who also scored two goals, opened the scoring just over two minutes into play by finishing the same wraparound play he successfully scored with last week against Hamilton. Tim Kielich, Josh’s cousin, added his own goal as did Dylan Howatt, Mark Arnone and Ryan Schmelzer. Parker Gahagen stopped 33 Aurora shots to preserve the win.
Scoring for Aurora were Robbie Lepine, Jeff MacPherson, Taylor McCloy and Kenzie Smith. Two of Aurora’s players hail from Western New York and both recorded points in this game. Nick Angelo of Wiliamsville, who was traded from the Buffalo Jr. Sabres very early in the season, scored two assists while Steven Cook of Lancaster added one of his own.
The Junior Sabres next play two games on the road on two consecutive nights. On Friday night they travel to Huntsville to face the Otters, then are guests of the Georgetown Raiders the following night.
We’ll post highlights from the Jr. Sabres game vs. Aurora in the next edition of Junior Sabres Journal, scheduled for release later this week.
