(Milton, ON) – It’s not the kind of result a team wants heading into the final weekend of the regular season, but for the Buffalo Junior Sabres last night’s 9-3 defeat at the Milton Icehawks will have no effect on their playoff seeding. Buffalo is locked in third and awaits the results of games tonight to determine the first round playoff opponent.
Shane Bennett scored a shorthanded goal for his second consecutive game, while Michael Crowley and Alex Dagnal added goals to complete Buffalo’s offense. Milton’s Kane Elliot scored two power play goals while the Icehawks scored two shorthanded goals as part of the onslaught.
Goaltender Curran McNamara turned aside 34 shots in the Buffalo net while Denny Dubblestyne recorded 43 saves for the Icehawks.
Buffalo concludes its regular season schedule tonight with a road trip to Georgetown and a date with the Raiders, who join the Oakville Blades in a first-round playoff bye. The game in Georgetown begins tonight at 7:30pm.
