Four members of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres have been selected to participate in the CJHL’s Eastern Canada Cup Challenge being held later this month in Cornwall, Ontario.

Christopher Berger, captain Zach Evancho, Tim Nicksic and Andrew Pizzo were all named to the OJHL teams for the tournament, which will be held November 16 through November 18.

Pizzo will suit up for the OJHL Hawerchuk team, while the other three Jr. Sabres players will suit up for OJHL Nieuwendyk.

So far this season, the defenseman has registered 11 points (4-7) in 20 games. He leads Jr. Sabres blueliners in scoring and has already matched his scoring total from last season in 17 less games.

Evancho leads the team overall in scoring, with 29 points – including a team-high 11 goals – in 22 games. His 18 assists are also top on the team. Last season, he registered 35 points in 37 games, and he’s on pace to match and break that.

Berger and Nicksic have each registered 22 points on the season. Berger’s 10 goals and 12 assists in just 19 games lead him to average over a point per game, while Nicksic has averaged exactly a point per game. Last season, Berger notched 38 points (15-23) in 53 games.

Nicksic’s 22 points this season have already surpassed his total from last year, when he had 21 points in 54 games.

The Hawerchuk team will be co-coached by Dan West (Lindsay) and Brent Hughes (North York) and will play in Group C with the MHL and CCHL Yzerman teams.

The Nieuwendyk team will be co-coached by Mark Jooris and Kirby Tokarski, both of Burlington. The team will play in Group B with the NOJHL team and the CCHL Robinson squad.

Pizzo and Team Hawerchuk open things on November 16 against the Yzerman team. Team Nieuwendyk opens the following day against the NOJHL squad.
