Jr. Sabres open new season Sept. 8

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres will return to North York, Ontario, where their 2013 playoff run ended, to start the 2013-14 Ontario Junior Hockey League season on Sunday, September 8.

The league schedule, released this week by the OJHL, will see every team play 26 home games, 26 road games and a neutral site game at the Governor’s Showcase, which this year will be held in Oakville, Ontario the weekend of September 28-29, 2013.

The Jr. Sabres will be a part of league history, as they’ll host the first-ever outdoor regular season game against league champion St. Michael’s at Frontier Field in Rochester, Sunday, December 15, 2013 as part of Rochester’s ten-day hockey festival. “Because of the Buffalo Sabres continued involvement as a partner with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres,” said Jr. Sabres Governor and Buffalo Sabres Alumni Larry Playfair, “they extended to us an opportunity to play a game at the outdoor facility they are putting in place for the Rochester Americans AHL league game. It was something we wanted to do for our players and we are happy that St. Michael’s has agreed to be the opponent that night.”

Buffalo will also host two home games at the home of the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres, First Niagara Center. The Jr. Sabres will welcome the Milton Icehawks on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 7 p.m., and then host the Pickering Panthers at FNC on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 7 p.m.

The team’s full schedule is available on the Calendar link on the team’s official website, www.buffalojuniorsabres.com.
