The Buffalo Jr. Sabres open the 2016-2017 OJHL season by hosting the Orangeville Flyers on Saturday, September 10 for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at HARBORCENTER.
The Jr. Sabres will then hit the road for a 2:10 p.m. faceoff the following day at the Whitby Fury to cap off the team’s season-opening weekend. That game kicks off a five-game road trip for Buffalo, who will go on to visit Toronto Lakeshore, Georgetown, Toronto and Mississauga before returning home to host Aurora on September 24.
Buffalo visits the Buckland Cup Champion Trenton Golden Hawks on November 10 in their only meeting of the season.
The Jr. Sabres season is highlighted by the team’s hosting the OJHL Governor’s Showcase for the second consecutive season. This year’s showcase will be held from September 26-28 at HARBORCENTER. Last year, over 60 scouts attended the event.
Buffalo’s longest homestand – which occurs twice in the season – lasts just three games.
Over the course of the season, 16 OJHL teams will visit HARBORCENTER to face off with the Jr. Sabres. Only Cobourg, Kingston, Whitby, Wellington and Trenton are the exceptions.
Though Buffalo will spend much of its first month of the season on the road, they’ll finish off the season largely at home. The month of February sees the team play six times, four of which are at home – including a three-game homestand to finish out the regular season on February 25.
Other highlights of the season include:
- Afternoon home game on Columbus Day (October 10, 1 pm)
- More 6:30 p.m. home starts
- Winter break from December 19 – December 28
- New Year’s Eve game at Orangeville (1:30 pm)
- Afternoon home game on President’s Day (February 20, 4 pm)
Stay tuned as the OJHL season grows ever closer and we begin our quest for the Buckland Cup!
