(Amherst, NY) – The Buffalo Jr. Sabres returned from a Christmas break with a roar, thumping the Milton Icehawks 9-1 at the Northtown Center at Amherst Wednesday evening at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Tyler Gjurich opened the scoring with his 38th goal of the season just over four minutes into the opening period. When it was all done, both Ryan Schmelzer and Sean Federow (file photo, courtesy OJHL Images) had two-goal games, while Tony DeVito, Darrin Trebes, Nolan Sheeran and Brian Ruff added single tallies.
Gjurich, Schmelzer and Federow also recorded two assists each. Gjurich leads the entire Ontario Junior Hockey League in scoring with 71 points in 41 games (38 goals, 33 assists).
Parker Gahagen stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced, conceding his only goal late in the third.
The Jr. Sabres (28 wins, 10 losses, 3 shootout losses) next travel to Georgetown on Saturday to face the Raiders and then return home to host the Burlington Cougars on Monday, January 7 at the Northtown Center at Amherst, beginning at 7:30pm.
