Jr. Sabres to appear at Bowman Showcase

(Buffalo, NY) – The Buffalo Junior Sabres will be well represented when the Buffalo Sabres host their eighth annual Scotty Bowman Showcase on Tuesday, March 20 at First Niagara Center. This year’s showcase begins at 6:00pm with the high school junior game, followed by the high school senior game at 7:30pm and then the junior/prep game at 9:00pm. All games will be formatted in two 22-minute halves.

Six Jr. Sabres players will appear in the event’s first-ever junior/prep level game. Skating for Team Buffalo will be Shane Bennett (Grand Island), Tim Kielich (East Aurora), Max Mikowski (Cheektowaga), Andrew Poturalski (Amherst) and Kollin Schultz (Williamsville). Playing for Team Rochester will be Dylan Howatt (Fairport).

In addition to the players, members of the Jr. Sabres staff will also participate as coaches. General Manager and new Head Coach Michael Peca will lead the Buffalo junior/prep squad. Jr. Sabres broadcaster Ric Seiling, who resides in Rochester and also works as a radio commentator for the AHL’s Rochester Americans, will coach Team Rochester’s high school senior squad.

First launched in 2005, the showcase highlights high school aged players from the Buffalo area competing against counterparts from the Rochester area. The tournament is named for Scotty Bowman, the winningest coach in National Hockey League history and, for part of his career, a head coach and general manager of the Sabres.

According to the Buffalo Sabres’ official website, Bowman will appear to present the Bowman Cup to the winning high school senior team. Team Buffalo’s seniors lead Rochester 6-1 all time at the Bowman Showcase.
