(Aurora, ON) – The Aurora Tigers rallied twice to erase Buffalo Junior Sabres leads, but the visitors took two points following an overtime shootout that was finally decided in the eighth round by the Jr. Sabres’ Max Mikowski.
Mikowski (Cheektowaga, NY) also gave Buffalo what was the go-ahead goal in the third period before former Jr. Sabre Nick Angelo scored late for Aurora to force overtime.
Jr. Sabres team captain Mark Arnone scored two goals, while Josh Kielich and Shane Bennett added single tallies. Kevin Shier led the Tigers in scoring with one goal and two assists and succeeded on his shootout attempt. Buffalo’s Jonas Fredriksson countered with his own successful shootout try to keep the Jr. Sabres alive until Mikowski scored the winner.
Parker Gahagen stopped 25 shots and allowed only one goal on eight tries in the shootout. The Jr. Sabres outshot the hosts 46-30, including five shots in overtime. Brett Sinclair (25 saves) and Kevin Entmaa (16 saves) shared time in the Aurora net.
