LaFontaine commits to Canisius

BUFFALO – Daniel LaFontaine, who has missed most of the season to injury but is eagerly returning to the lineup, announced his commitment to Canisius College beginning in academic year 2015-16.

LaFontaine, son of former Buffalo Sabres captain and now team executive Pat LaFontaine, led the team in scoring through the first four games of the season until his leg injury required surgery and rehab.

He becomes the seventh player on the currernt roster to have his college plans announced and the third member of this year’s squad to commit to Canisius, which along with the Jr. Sabres will move into the HARBORCenter in downtown Buffalo next fall. Also heading to Canisius, effective next season, will be Ryan Schmelzer and Nolan Sheeran.

Also currently committed to college programs are Nick DeSimone (Union College, 2014), Max Mikowski (RIT, 2014), Dennis Gilbert (Niagara, 2015) and Michael Ederer (St. Lawrence, 2015).

Former Jr. Sabres Mason Evans committed to Connecticut College beginning this fall before he was traded to the Pickering Panthers.
