OAKVILLE, ON – With injuries now bugging the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, the team called up forward Christopher Moses to fill in. He very quickly made himself at home on the Jr. Sabres roster, scoring two goals including what proved to be the game-winner, as Buffalo rolled to a 9-2 win over the Oakville Blades Friday night at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
Moses, who was called up from the Junior B level Buffalo Regals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, got his first goal just 3:20 into the contest, assisted by Mason Evans and Nathan Black. Just two minutes later, Nolan Sheeran set up Pat Egan for his ninth goal of the season.
Sheeran and Evans both recorded three assists before the game was finished.
After Oakville’s Dalton Bew scored at the 10:44 mark of the first period to cut the lead to 2-1, Moses got his second goal of the game, set up by Evans.
Darren McCormick also scored twice for Buffalo, including his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Both goals came in the second period. Tim Kielich scored a goal for the third consecutive game. Dylan Gamble and Nick DeSimone both scored on the power play while Nico Gonzalez added a goal in the third period.
Jason Heerdt had two assists, while Joseph Pianta stopped 32 shots to record his ninth win of the season and improve his record to 9-2-1.
Moses, McCormick and Sheeran were named the games three stars, in order of first to third.
The Jr. Sabres travel to Georgetown Saturday evening to face the Raiders, who trail Buffalo by four points in the Ontario Junior Hockey League West Division standings. Buffalo, however, holds three games in hand.
