May 1, 2012, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) today announced the creation of the OJHL Foundation, in conjunction with the announcement of the first-ever OJHL Foundation Golf Classic.
The OJHL Foundation was created to provide assistance and opportunities for the most important aspect of the league, the players. All funds raised will support and reward our athletes with scholarships and financial assistance, as well as to fund the first Concussion Protocol Program in junior hockey.
Along with a variety of initiatives throughout the year, the main fundraiser for the OJHL Foundation will be the OJHL Foundation Golf Classic. The inaugural event is slated to be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Toronto, Ontario. The annual tournament is open to the general public and will feature a shotgun start, lunch, buffet dinner, gift package, prizes and a silent auction table. Registration is $900/foursome or $225/individual golfer, with an “Early-Bird Special” discount for those registering before May 10, 2012.
“The creation of the OJHL Foundation and OJHL Foundation Golf Classic marks a very important day in the league’s history and is further proof of the Board of Governors commitment to our most important asset, the players,” stated OJHL Chairman Scott McCrory. “The funds raised through the Foundation will provide a reward for the dedication of our young athletes by providing financial assistance, as well as scholarship opportunities for those looking to continue their academic careers.”
OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy discussed another unique opportunity the Foundation will afford, “The players in the OJHL are our number one asset and protecting them, as well as providing a safe playing environment on critical to our growth moving forward. Along with assisting the players financially, the Foundation will contribute to a Concussion Protocol Program, which will include baseline testing, rehabilitation, proper awareness and equipment.”
