A huge congratulations goes out to two Buffalo Jr. Sabres OJHL alumni, Declan McDonnell and Matteo Costantini, who were selected in the 2020 NHL Draft! We are incredibly proud of these young men, who represented our organization well during their time here, and look forward to continuing to cheer them on in their bright futures.
Declan McDonnell was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 217th overall selection. McDonnell spent one season in the OJHL, but it was an impressive one. He recorded 49 points, including 31 assists, in just 54 regular season games in the 2018-19 season. He also collected 11 points in 12 playoff games. The 18-year-old then took his offensive talents to the Ontario Hockey League, suiting up for the Kitchener Rangers. He recorded 42 points in 63 games last season.
Matteo Costantini was selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the 131st overall selection. Costantini had a tremendous rookie season in the OJHL last season, with 68 points in just 50 games. He went on to add 10 points in just six playoff games before the OJHL postseason came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 18-year-old has joined the BCHL’s Penticton Vees for this season and has already been named an alternate captain. He also recently announced his commitment to the University of North Dakota.
Congratulations, Declan and Matteo!
