Raiders take Buffalo out of first with 5-1 decision

(Amherst, NY) – The Georgetown Raiders came into the Northtown Center at Amherst on Monday night seeking to avenge a loss to Buffalo on their own ice nine days prior.  They got their revenge with a 5-1 win over the host Jr. Sabres, but also climbed over Buffalo to take first place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League West Division standings.

Caleb Apperson and Tyler MacPherson scored less than a half-minute apart in the second period to open fhe scoring.  Jacob Bauchman built the lead to 3-0 before Josh Kielich scored the Jr. Sabres’ only goal of the game on the power play.  Geoffrey Bagnall restored the three-goal lead and Patrick Megannety completed the Raiders’ scoring with a late empty-netter.

Jr. Sabres netminder Parker Gahagen and Georgetown goalie Michael Giugovaz both made 38 saves, with Georgetown outshooting Buffalo 42 to 39.

The Jr. Sabres will work out for the remainder of the week then bus out of Western New York on Friday afternoon in preparation of their Saturday morning game against Brampton at the OJHL Governor’s showcase in Cobourg, Ontario.
