Seward Selected by USHL’s Phantoms

(Amherst, NY) – The Buffalo Junior Sabres today announced that forward David Seward of Williamsville, New York, was selected by the Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League’s annual Entry Draft, held Thursday, May 22.  Seward, a 1993 birth year player, was chosen by the Phantoms as the 84th overall pick.

While playing for the Jr. Sabres in the 2011-2012 Ontario Junior Hockey League season, Seward recorded 10 goals and 19 assists in 42 regular season games.  During this time Seward also announced his verbal commitment to attend Princeton University, beginning with academic year 2013-2014.

“David is a tremendous young man that is as eager as anyone to learn the game at a high level,” said Junior Sabres head coach and general manager Michael Peca. “This selection provides David another possible option that will eventually lead to Princeton University and then beyond.”

Seward skated with the Junior Sabres in their spring tryout and evaluation camp, which ended on May 19.  According to Peca, Seward will continue to have Buffalo available to him as an option for next season, his final year as a junior.
