Trenton’s Thompson deadly on offense in 4-1 win against Buffalo

Mathew Thompson had two goals to lead the Trenton Golden Hawks to a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.

Thompson scored at 11:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Trenton and again while 17:55 into the second to make the score 2-1 Trenton.

 

Buffalo’s power play was ineffective against Trenton’s penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Golden Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Trenton also had goals scored by Tyler Donaldson and Ryan Kinsella, who scored one goal each. More assists for Trenton came via Bobby PolachekNick ClarkZach de ConcilysNick SantoroTyler SehovicHunter Fargey, and Brady Wiffen, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Sabres could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Buffalo puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

The Jr. Sabres were led by Nolan Sheeran, who scored the team’s only goal. Sheeran scored 1:31 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Pat Egan assisted on the tally.

Denny Dubblestyne rejected 23 shots on goal for Trenton. The Golden Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Brandon Mueller took the loss and made 13 saves before being replaced by Joseph Pianta who made six saves. Buffalo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
