The weekend of September 15th saw the Jr. Sabres on the road for two road games. On Friday the Jr. Sabres took on the Collingwood Blues. Leif Ekblad got the start in net for the Jr. Sabres. The Blues took a two-goal lead in the first before the Jr. Sabres put their first on the board at the start of the second with a goal by Haeden Ellis and assists from Josh Przystal and Gavin Klaassen. The Jr. Sabres kept the Blues off the board in the second period to head into the third with a 2-1 score. The Blues put two more in the net in the third period including an empty net goal. Ekblad had 38 saves for the night as the Blues took the win with a 4-1 score.
Saturday the Jr Sabres faced off against the Georgetown Raiders. Aiden McKenna got the start in the net for the Jr. Sabres. The Raiders got on the board first with a power play goal in the first period. The Jr. Sabres tied it up at the start of the second period with a goal by Ryan Shuler and assists from Zach Derito and Josh Przystal. The Jr. Sabres would head into the third period with the game tied at one apiece. Przystal would put the game winner past the Raiders goalie early in the third with assists from Beckett Hinchsliff and Cameron Doran. McKenna made 41 saves to help give the Jr. Sabres the win over the Raiders.
The Jr. Sabres are now 2-2 in the regular season and sit in 6th place in the West Conference. Next up the Jr. Sabres bring OJHL action back to the LECOM Harborcenter as they face off against the Wellington Dukes in their home opener on September 20th. The Jr. Sabres home opener is also Playfair Appreciation Night with a special opening ceremony at 5:30pm.
