A stellar performance between the pipes by Nate Skidmore helped the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeat the Stouffville Spirit, 2-1.
Buffalo was paced by Josh Gabriel, who racked up one goal. Gabriel scored 18:59 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Tim Kielich picked up the assist.
The Jr. Sabres’ penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Stouffville power plays.
Buffalo additionally got points from Kielich, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Wilson Vershay, David Baskerville, and Bray Crowder, who contributed one each.
Stouffville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Spirit were held below their usual level of production. Stouffville puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game.
The Spirit were led by Spencer Roberts, who scored the team’s only goal. Roberts scored 8:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stouffville. Joseph Deveny provided the assist.
Skidmore recorded 28 saves for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Stouffville’s Conor McCollum stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Spirit incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
