Buffalo survives Whitby comeback, wins 4-3

The Whitby Fury tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Buffalo Jr. Sabres held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Ryan Kuhn put Buffalo up 4-2 in the third period, but Whitby pulled to within one on Ryan Kirkup‘s tally 3:18 into the third period.

 

Kuhn had a great game for the Jr. Sabres, netting two goals.

Buffalo additionally got points from Tim Kielich, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Buffalo also got a goal from Nick Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Aaron Reinig and Ben Casale, who contributed one each.

The Fury forced Buffalo goalie Alex Connal to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Whitby was helped by Scott Kirton, who racked up one goal. Kirton scored 12:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Mitchell Burghardt picked up the assist. Matt Fischer also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jesse DunnJonathan OHaraJeremy Wu, and Davis Kuksis, who each chipped in one.

Connal rejected 29 shots on goal for the Jr. Sabres. Buffalo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Austin Cain recorded 20 saves for the Fury. Whitby incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
