Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Hamilton Red Wings were able to defeat the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, 5-2.
Hamilton stifled Buffalo’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
The Red Wings were helped by Alex Zaccaria, who finished with one goal. Zaccaria scored 6:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Alexander Carlson provided the assist. Hamilton additionally got points from Otis Goldman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Hamilton included Luke Sinclair, Ryan Punkari, and Laine McKay, who each put in one. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Jeff Joynt, Rylee St. Onge, Joel Knight, and Carl Greco, who each chipped in one and Erick Delaurentis and Ryan Erickson, who contributed two each.
The Jr. Sabres forced Hamilton goalie Mark Sinclair to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.
Buffalo was helped by Zach Evancho, who had one goal. Evancho scored short handed 7:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hamilton. The Jr. Sabres were on a disadvantage when Tim Nicksic went off the ice for checking from behind. Buffalo also got a goal from Josh Gabriel as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Christopher Berger and Ryan Kuhn, who each chipped in one.
Mark Sinclair made 32 saves for the Red Wings on 34 shots. Hamilton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Red Wings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joynt was ejected from the game. Buffalo’s Nate Skidmore stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Jr. Sabres incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Buffalo, Nicksic was ejected from the game.
