Buffalo tops Hurricanes on road, 7-3

NEWMARKET, ON – Coming off a tough loss at Wellington on Friday night, the Jr. Sabres ended their weekend with a 7-3 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes at the Ray Twinney Complex in Newmarket, Ontario.

Seven different Jr. Sabres players scored, including some who got their first goals of the season: Brandon Schaber, Tim Kielich and Dylan Gamble. Schaber’s goal proved to be the game winner, which came at the 16:26 mark of the first period after goals by Nick DeSimone and Ryan Schmelzer had the Jr. Sabres ahead 2-0.

Second period power play goals by Ian Farrell and Shaquille Hickey brought the hosts with within one goal but Buffalo then pulled away for good, beginning with Kielich’s goal at the 12:37 mark of the second. McCormick scored to send Buffalo into the second intermission leading 5-2.

Gamble and Gonzalez scored their goals in the third period with the latter closing out the scoring at the 18:58 mark.

Brandon Mueller got the start in goal for Buffalo and made 34 saves. The Jr. Sabres were outshot, 36-34.

Buffalo returns to the Northtown Center at Amherst on Tuesday to host the Orangeville Flyers, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
