The Oakville Blades survived a determined comeback attempt by the Buffalo Jr. Sabres on the way to a 6-5 win.
Oakville made the score 6-4 on a goal by Ryan Foss at 11:05 in the third period, and Buffalo got as close as 6-5 when Griffin Lunn scored 15:10 into the third period.
The Blades were sparked by Foss, who tallied one goal.
Oakville also got points from Tyler Rollo, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Oliver Benwell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Oakville also had goals scored by Bryce Misley, Peyton Reeves, and Ryan Garvey, who scored one goal each. In addition, Oakville received assists from Patrick Kudla, Daniel Jelic, and Christian Rajic, who contributed one each and Josh Kosack and Paul Butler, who each chipped in two.
The Jr. Sabres put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Oakville to score on any of its three power plays. Buffalo forced the Blades goalie Brendan McGlynn to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.
Buffalo additionally got points from Aaron Reinig, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Christopher Berger, who also had one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Bryce Ferrell as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Tim Nicksic, who had three and Mitchell Spring, Dylan Seitz, Zach Evancho, and Joshua Biasillo, who contributed one each.
McGlynn recorded 33 saves for Oakville. The Blades incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tucker Weppner made 24 saves for the Jr. Sabres on 30 shots. Buffalo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
