(Amherst, NY) – The Buffalo Junior Sabres Hockey Club is pleased to report that forward Nolan Sheeran (at left in photo) has announced his verbal commitment to enroll at Canisius College beginning in 2014-15. In addition, defenseman Darrin Trebes (at right in photo) recently announced his intention to enroll at SUNY Fredonia beginning next academic year, 2013-14.
Sheeran, a resident of East Amherst, New York, has appeared in 35 regular season games through December 6, scoring 10 goals and 14 assists. He is tied with two players in sixth place in team scoring. Last season, Sheeran was called up from the Jr. Sabres (Buffalo Regals) 18U squad and appeared in eight games, scoring one goal and one assist.
Trebes, a resident of Williamsville, New York, has appeared in 21 games this season, scoring one goal and five assists. Although he missed some time earlier in the season due to an injury, Trebes has become a reliable member of the team’s defensive unit. He is in his first season with the Junior “A” club, skating the previous season with Sheeran on the Jr. Sabres 18U squad.
“I am extremely excited for both,” said Jr. Sabres head coach and general manager Michael Peca. “I’m sure Nolan’s decision was difficult given the options he had. In the end, he stays close to home which I’m sure his family is very excited about.
“Darrin has become very steady for us on the blue line and will be a great addition to Fredonia next season.”
In addition to these new commitments, second-year forward Josh Kielich (Orchard Park, New York) remains committed to enrolling and playing at Canisius College beginning in 2013-14, a commitment he first announced last season.
The Jr. Sabres’ next game is Monday, December 10, when they’ll host the St. Michael’s Buzzers at the Northtown Center at Amherst, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive, beginning at 7:30pm.
