Spirit wins 5-1 on Buffalo ice

(Amherst, NY) – The Buffalo Junior Sabres scored first and early, but the rest of the game belonged to the Stouffville Spirit, who scored five unanswered goals to hand Buffalo a home loss.

Matt Mahony scored Buffalo’s lone goal just 2:55 into the game when he streaked out of his own zone, beat two defensemen and fired the puck over the arm of goaltender Knick Dawe.

Chris Porter responded for the Spirit with two power play goals, with Andrew Doyle, Brandon Gaudette and Christian Finch (power play) adding their own tallies.  Dawe stopped the other 33 shots he faced.

Parker Gahagen took the loss for Buffalo, stopping 21 shots along the way.  The Jr. Sabres were missing two of their top scorers:  Andrew Poturalski continues to recover from an ankle injury while Josh Kielich was scheduled to undergo testing for a reported upper body problem.

The Jr. Sabres get a long break, returning to action Tuesday, December 13, at home against Brampton.
