Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the xKingston Voyageurs defeated the xBuffalo Jr. Sabres in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).
The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. xBuffalo got a shootout goal from Michael Ederer. In addition to the clincher, xKingston got a shootout goal from Alex Tonge.
The Voyageurs got the win thanks to a great game by Tonge, who had two goals and two assists. Tonge scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:44 into the second period to make the score 3-2 xKingston. xKingston had gained a power play chance when Wilson Vershay was whistled for tripping. Adam Brady picked up the assist. Tonge’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 xKingston with 4:06 left in the second period. Wyatt Cota provided the assist.
The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and xKingston eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.
xKingston additionally got points from Brett Seney, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brady, who also had one goal and two assists. Brody Heleno also scored for xKingston. More assists for xKingston came via Brandon OQuinn and Cole Bolton, who each chipped in one.
xBuffalo forced the Voyageurs goalie Alex Brooks-Potts to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.
The Jr. Sabres were led by Pat Egan, who racked up one goal and two assists. Egan scored 19:10 into the second period to make the score 4-3 xKingston. Josh Gabriel assisted on the tally. xBuffalo also got points from Dennis Gilbert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Nolan Sheeran, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xBuffalo included Ederer and Ben Casale, who each put in one. In addition, xBuffalo received assists from Daniel Lafontaine, Ryan Kuhn, Nick Desimone, Nico Gonzalez, and Tim Kielich, who contributed one a piece.
Alex Brooks-Potts made 40 saves for xKingston on 45 shots. The Voyageurs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. xBuffalo’s Joseph Pianta stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Jr. Sabres incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
