Head coach Nick Tuzzolino and his staff have named returning forward Alec Cicero as the captain for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in the 2019-20 OJHL season. Cicero, a 2001-born Williamsville native, is entering his second season with the Ontario Junior Hockey League squad. He is one of just a small handful of returning players on this season’s roster.
Cicero recorded 30 points, including 17 goals, in 54 games last season. He also put up five points in the postseason.
Previously, Cicero has played at other levels in the Buffalo Jr. Sabres organization, including at the 16U, 15U and Bantam Major levels.
Rounding out the Jr. Sabres’ leadership this season will be another pair of returning players: Jeremy Swartz and Ryan Pitoscia.
Swartz, a 2000-born defenseman, is also entering his second season with the OJHL team. He recorded one assist and 39 penalty minutes last season and will be a veteran presence on Buffalo’s blueline this year.
Pitoscia, a 2000-born forward, joined the Jr. Sabres midway through last season from Millbrook School. In 22 games with Buffalo, Pitoscia proved to be a strong competitor and recorded six assists. He also put up six points (2-4) in 12 playoff games with Buffalo.
Cicero, Swartz, Pitoscia & the rest of the Jr. Sabres kick off their 2019-20 OJHL campaign on Wednesday, September 11. The Burlington Cougars will be in town for a 7:45 p.m. puck drop at Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo. Admission is free!
