(Amherst, NY) – David Seward (in photo) scored twice, including a power play goal and another that proved to be the game winner, as the Buffalo Junior Sabres downed the Jamestown Ironmen in the first of the teams’ two exhibition games, 4-3, at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Nolan Sheeran, Seward and Josh Kielich scored on power play goals in the first period to lift Buffalo to an early lead of 3-0. Jamestown, however, stayed tough and took advantage of their own power plays and Buffalo miscues to whittle that lead away. Evan Ritt scored twice for the Ironmen, including once on a two-man power play, while Ryan Urso added a shorthanded goal to keep Jamestown in the game. Seward’s second goal proved to make the difference.
Both Parker Gahagen and Bobby Bloomfield saw action in front of the Buffalo net.
Both teams will meet again in Jamestown on Friday, September 7, for the second of the home-and-home series at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, beginning at 7pm. Following the exhibition series the Jr. Sabres will open the Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season on September 9 in Toronto against the Jr. Canadiens.
