Junior Sabres tame Cougars, 4-1

(Burlington, ON) – Two power play goals, one by Chris Luker and the other by Mark Arnone, led the Buffalo Junior Sabres in their 4-1 win on the road at Burlington Saturday night, completing a road swing with two wins in two nights.

Derek Patterson (on ice in photo) opened the scoring for Buffalo with an unassisted goal just 2:42 into the first period.  Luker’s goal followed later in the period.

Burlington’s Jeremy Laing cut the lead to 2-1 at the 11:05 mark of the third period, while goaltender Braden Mann played well for the Cougars.  Andrew Poturalski increased Buffalo’s lead to 3-1 late in the third, with Arnone adding his power play goal into an empty net shortly after.

Parker Gahagen made 33 saves in front of the Buffalo net while Mann stopped 39 of 42 Buffalo shots.

Meanwhile, hits from behind continue to be a problem for Jr. Sabres players, with Rocky Gruttadauria becoming the latest Buffalo player to be ejected for such an infraction.  He’ll be suspended for the next two games.

Buffalo returns to action at home on Tuesday night, November 1, against the Oakville Blades.
